COMPETITIONS

The following is a list of competitions that all science research students must compete in for all 4 years. You can expect to compete in each competition at least once in the 4-year Science Research program. These competitions have many benefits, including the opportunity to earn money prizes (some totaling up to $4,000,000). Be prepared and good luck, researchers!

Siemens Competition

The Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology recognizes remarkable talent early on, fostering individual growth for high school students who are willing to challenge themselves through science research. Through this competition, students have an opportunity to achieve national recognition for science research projects that they complete in high school.

Regeneron Science Talent Search

Each year, more than 1,700 seniors attending American high schools conduct original research projects and present their work in the country’s oldest, most prestigious pre-college science competition: the Regeneron Science Talent Search, a program of Society for Science & the Public. Forty of these young innovators are chosen as finalists and invited to participate in a nearly week-long event in Washington, D.C., where they compete for over USD 1.25 million in awards and scholarships.

FLHS Science Fair

The FLHS Annual Science Symposium is FLHS's celebration for the students working in research each year.  All research students get the chance to present their original research before their peers, faculty, family, and other students.  Teams are rigorously assessed based on their posters' design quality, their presentation's presentation, their ability to answer questions about their work, overall teamwork and the knowledge underlying their work.  Students' work is also evaluated to contribute to final grades.
